Laura, Great job with the site. I'm truly amazed at how it's evolved. Molly is lucky to have you. Speaking of memories, I'm reminded of Mike everyday I look in the mirror. Being that Mike and I weighed the same in plebe summer at USNA, we sparred against each other in plebe boxing almost everyday. Well, Mike got lucky one day (ha ha ha) and hit me with a right cross that left my nose a bit crooked! I really wanted to make him pay for that, and I finally got my chance when he showed up at BUD/S. I paid his instructors a visit and asked them to give Mike a little special attention! Mike and I worked together in Djibouti years later, and that was the last time I had a lot of quality time with him. We skydived, grappled, and spoke over beers together. I was impressed that after completing a six-month deployment to SOUTHCOM, Mike volunteered to spend another three months in Africa just to be with his guys. I think about him a lot, and I miss him. Mike was one-of-a-kind. The best.

Groove,
I can't think of anything more poignant than "I miss you, brother." Our time together was too short.

I'm a grade school friend of Mike's - always remember him as a happy, upbeat, and FUNNY guy. We were always horsing around and having a good time. One strange thing I remembered about mike was a particular outfit he wore (when I picture him in my head, I see him in it)..gray pants (rolled up around the ankle because that was "cool" back then) and a button down red pinstripe shirt. I think I remember this because I admired Mike and wanted to be like him... from his great personality down to the clothes.

Mike was my AOIC, and more importantly one of my friends. I have yet to meet anyone else who had the drive, values, and dedication to family that he possessed. I could speak volumes about Mike's personal charactor and professionalism, but there isn't room on this guestbook for it. To me Mike represented the kind of man I want to be, and I certainly strive to become but a fraction of the man he was. I would have gladly followed him wherever he led. They say in the Navy that great leaders are not born but made, I think Mike was the exception to that. I miss you brother. Pati

Thank you for the opportunity to recognize our servicemen and women who serve in Afghanistan. I feel they are so often forgotten in the arguments over the war in Iraq. I did not know Mike, but am honored to contribute to this worthwhile fund.

I met Mike when I left the service and was asked to help coach track with my brother. Mike was such a skinny, uncoordinated kid, I didn't feel he would have much success. By the time he graduated he had the school record in the 800 meters, a record that had stood for 17 years. Mike was the single most determined person I have EVER met and I sure miss him.

We were blessed to know Mike and his Mom when they lived on Butternut Brk in Portville. We also lived on that road and had children around Mikes age. I remember Mike as a very polite well mannered young man. If I remember corrrectly instead of taking the bus to school Mike would run to school which was probably atleast 4 miles from his home. Mike was one of a kind and someone to really be proud of.
